Resilience and hope
beyond a diagnosis.

In her own words — Meghan Carden Hecker

Each month, we sit down with a member of the Onto community to hear their story in their own words, from the difficult moments to the hopeful ones, and everything in between. This September, Meghan Carden Hecker shares her story of resilience and hope beyond her diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with PMOS in high school, but I didn’t truly understand what that diagnosis could mean for me and my dream to be a mom someday. I never imagined I would need IVF in my mid-20s to make that dream possible.

When we were ready to grow our family further, I knew I needed something different. I had spent years trying to better understand my PMOS because I didn’t feel like a standard, “one size fits all” approach was working for me.

Leaving the fertility clinic that helped us conceive our first daughter through IVF was scary. But from the very beginning with Onto, I knew I had made the right choice. For the first time, I felt like I had a team that not only helped me understand my body and my diagnosis, but saw me as so much more than both.

Dr. Jeelani’s ability to think outside the box and find an individualized path forward gave me something that can feel so impossible to find in infertility: hope.

Through every exciting milestone and every unexpected hurdle, I truly felt at home as Onto held my hand and my heart. They never made me feel silly for asking a question, never made me feel like an inconvenience, and somehow always had time for me. I’ve worked in healthcare long enough to know how special it is to find a provider who can make you feel like you’re her only patient, and that is exactly how I would describe Dr. Jeelani.

Today, I am pregnant with our second daughter, our first Onto baby. And I know what a beautiful gift it is to be here. If I could tell someone with PMOS or anyone walking through infertility one thing, it would be that you deserve to feel like an active part of your own care.

Moments from the journey

A few moments along the way.

This journey can make you question your body, your decisions, and at times whether the family you’ve always dreamed of will ever be possible. Having a team that believed in me and took the time to understand me made all the difference.

“Onto gave me so much more than a treatment plan, they gave me confidence in my care.”
